Coil on PLug Conversion kit Hi Fellas- I'm looking for the wiring harness for the coil on plug conversion for my M44 with DASC. I tried HQAutosport and they were unable to supply the harness. Does anyone have a reliable trusted source for the harness? Thanks. Bruce |
OK, so I went ahead and ordered the kit from GKD Tuning. We'll see how it works out. |
Welcome to the site. I don’t know how many have done this conversion to comment. I guess you’re the guy to tell us all about it. So, how did it go? Was there a noticeable improvement? |
HI Jim- I don't know yet. Since the kit comes from Britain, it takes a while to get here. They make the harness to order, which takes a few days, and then shipping. I'll share my thoughts on it when it shows up and I get it installed. Thanks for your interest. Bruce |
Ok! Keep us posted! |

That's good to hear. I'm hoping to smooth out the idle a little and maybe cure an intermittent CEL i get that I've had trouble tracking down. |
If you are using the generic error codes provided with most code readers (Peake, etc.) you will get some wrong ones. You want to use the factory P-codes, which vary slightly form year to year. |
You might want to search at m42club.com for COP conversion information too. They have identified connectors to make your own harness. Parts cost about $75 + coils. If you do this make sure you test that the coils fit through your valve cover openings (24mm dia.). There is an interesting solution using the Delphi e90 coils that I test fit. However after discussing this with my friend and master bmw mechanic I decided that putting coils in the middle of a hot engine block would not last as long as the almost bullet proof original coil pack. But my motivations are probably different than yours. |
2 Attachment(s) OK, I did the conversion with the GKD Tuning kit and new coil on plug units from Amazon. Installation was straight forward and easy. First impressions are that the engine starts easier, idles smoother, and just seems to run "happier." It's not any faster or anything, but it just seems to pull smoother through the gears. I cleared the CEL I would get intermittently, and so far, it hasn't returned, but time will tell on that. Overall, I am satisfied at this point. |
Nice! Hopefully that light stays out for you. |

Thanks |
Hi 740- The site is http://gkdtuning.com/bmw-tuning/ I think I narrowed down the CEL cause to missing/leaking vacuum hoses. I fixed those a couple of weeks ago, but just have not had the car out enough to see if it returns. We have lots of snow and I don't have winter tires for the ti. |
Thanks! Let me know the codes if you have them. Getting ready to do the same on a couple of ti's and wanting to make certain I'd have an idea what to look for since CA smog testing is such a major pain. |
