Z3 dash swap? Ever been done?

I briefly toyed with the idea of swapping in a dash from an e36 m3 or the like, but I abandoned the idea because the profile of the dashboard doesn't match the shape of the door cards. I mean, yeah, it would fit... but it would look like a clumsy hack job and not very factory.

But then I noticed that the z3 dashboard is very similar in profile to the 318ti dashboard... and now I've got the urge to explore the project as a possible way to luxe up my ti's interior while staying with OEM parts.

Has anyone actually attempted the swap? A bit of basic googling / forum searching got me nowhere, but surely someone has to have done it by now.

I’ve never seen that swap.

Bear in mind the z3 is a narrow car- get some measurements and check mounting points carefully.
