Heat shield... i think

Another thread from me.
I have a stock exhaust on my ti and it makes a hi pitched vibration noise whenever the engine rpm's increase and its sounds like a poorly maintained civic. Its quite embarrasing when your passing slower cars. But I think it may be a loose heat shield. The vibration sounds like a thin piece of aluminum like the heat shield. I just wanted to know if anyone could help. Thank you.

Hey,

It definitely sounds like your cat's heat shield. It's something that happens quite often. My car is so low it used to scrape on speed bumps until finally I had to remove it as it rattled. It's nothing complicated. You can then coat the cat with a high temp zinc primer and then shoot it with a high temp paint to protect it from the elements. No big deal.

Cheers,

well, to be put simply, whack the fukker off.

I replaced my system recently with a magnex cat-back, and the same noise was really pissin me off, so i went at it with a screwdriver, hammer and pliers. It aint hard, you WILL get rusty faced however.

IIRC, there are two heat shields, one for the cat, one for the exhaust. step outside the car and find out if it's coming from the middle (cat) or rear (exhaust).

if it's the rear, get someone else to keep the revs up and put a GLOVED hand on the shield. if it stops, that's your problem.

if not, could be your can.

someone once explained that the heat shield for the cat is there to get it to heat up more quickly so IF you can keep it there and secure it from rattling, that would probably be the better option. just my 2 cents.

yeah, my heat shield was loose, my mechanic just put couple more bolts on and kept it secure, he said dont remove that stuff.

he actually loved my remus exhaust when we installed it, the car has such a low bass its awesome i love the exhaust.
