Have any of you encountered water leaks where the A-pillar meets the roof line? This is not from the sun roof, it is happening at the door, where the weather stripping is. The water soaks into my headliner around the door edge (again, right where the pillar joins the roof) and then drips onto the front corner of the drivers seat and/or runs down the pillar and pools on top of the airvent. I've got water stains on both front seats, indentical mirror image spots. The dealer thought it might be a door adjustment issue. My car has 44k on it and the seals look in good condition. Help? ------------------ 1996 318ti Hellrot California Ed |
Just did a closer inspection over lunch. It may be from water leaking into the california roof "gutter" and not draining properly. Seems unlikely it is the door seal (especially BOTH door seals at the same time). Any insight from you cali roof owners?? ------------------ 1996 318ti Hellrot California Ed |
I have a leak on my passenger side only. It only leaks during medium to heavy rain. Not sure if it's coming from my Cali top or not. I'm still trying to inspect it. Let me know what you find. Storm |
Boy, join the crowd. I also had a leak. You probably have clogged drain lines. In roof is probably OK. I'm not exactly sure where they are but. . . I brought my car to a glass place because I was considering them removing and reinstalling my windshield. They tested the windshield for leaks, none found. Then after running water on the windshield we saw water flowing into the wheel well. The glass guy stuck a screwdriver in a hole underneath the car and the water started draining out the bottom. Maybe jack the car up and run water over the windshield. You will probably see water draining properly on the left to give you an idea where the water should flow from. Good luck. |
Thanks for your reply guys. The clogged drain tube experience confirms my suspicion- now I have to actually prove it! Gonna go to a craft store and see if they sell GI-GAN-TIC pipe cleaners or something. BTW my 1988 Acura Integra (179K, winter car, stuff hauler) has a nasty habit of collecting rain water inside the headliner via the sunroof. Think it has a clogged tube also. Instead of draining into the interior and soiling my seats, it stays up there until I come to a hard stop. Then inertia takes over and sends the water forward and DOWN ONTO THE BACK OF MY NECK. Man that wakes you up! Especially during those cold November rains. Think I'll clear hers too. Thanks- I'll keep you informed! ------------------ 1996 318ti Hellrot California Ed |
Well, i think i'm convinced from your posts. I just noticed this last week after the first rains of the year: damp headliner under the passenger visor, right A pillar, and between the dash and right door. The seals on the doors seem ok, and the driver's side is fine. I've the canvas roof, and was curious about the status of the drain holes. Can they be fixed and/or replaced under warranty? thanks. |
Don't know about repair under warranty- I'm not that fortunate. My gut says they'll try other things first like blowing out the drain holes. That's on my list for tomorrow actually. Not sure if it will solve the problem, but we'll see. ------------------ 1996 318ti Hellrot California Ed |
I have the exact same problem with my cali roof. I poured water down the drain holes and it slowly trickled out of the jack points? photo of a jack point That doesn't seem right to me. Anyone know where the draintubes are supposed to exit underneath the car? Also, are there only the two drain tubes at the A-pillars or are there also drain tubes at the rear of the car? |
Here you go..... Just shoot me a quick email if you want info on how to fix this problem. I have personal experience wasting time (hours) cleaning the gutter/drain tubes and looking for door seal problems. Most likely those are not the culprits. |
Thanks for the offer but I solved it with a $2 tube of silicone from Depot, a plastic syringe and 5 minutes. Just squirt it under the outer seal where it meets the paint in the corners. |
