S52 swap with 4 speed automatic? So I currently have an s52, manual wiring harness and DME that I was going to swap into my ti in the spring along with a ZF and LSD. I really don't want to do the 5 speed swap until the spring, but my question is: What would I need to drop in the s52 and make it work with the TI 4 speed? Would I have to get an automatic engine harness from a 328/TI? |
I like it. Somebody give us some input! |
Bump for an intelligent answer. I think that you would have to get an automatic harness from M3 (s52), possibly 328 (m52). They have an extra connection that goes on the transmission computer/controller from the look of it. This is just a guess from research I've been doing for my swap. I don't have experience with this. |
I have decided to just suck it up and do the 5 speed swap haha but let's keep this going. I think your right, not sure what auto transmission they use on the 328 but I know it's diffident on the m3, but I also know they use the same wiring harness( for manual at least). We also know the auto would bolt up to the s52. I think it comes down to wether the 328/m3 transmission module have the same connection, and if the computer would communicate with the M3 DME |
I did this and 4 speed GM is actually better than 5 speed zf. You just get the whole harness from 328i |
Alright, bit of a thread revival. Apologies in advance if this isn’t kosher. I’m swapping an m52b28 from a 97 528i, into my 1996 (obd2) 318ti automatic. From my previous research I’ve gleaned that the autos in each of them are the same case but different innards. My Ti does not have the ASC and the 528 does. I’m just wondering what I may run into. Anyway, if anyone has done this, please advise. Thanks! |
