BM Trouble U Racing - Chump Car World Series

Hey Jabronis! We adopted a 318ti and made it into a race car!

BM Trouble U Racing is composed of a bunch of goons from Southeast Michigan with engineering degrees and poor volume control.

We run a 1997 318ti that spent the prime days of its life on the hot streets of Nevada before being used (unsuccessfully) for a bank robbery and winding up in the hands of a student at Carnegie Mellon University. PO sold it to our teammate Adam after blessing it with traditional Hopi juju which got us through our first event at Gingerman Raceway.

We spent most of 2016 bringing the car up to Chump standards (roll cage, fire suppression, battery disconnect, etc.), drinking Coronas, and plasti-dipping our wheels, but we are looking forward to making some big improvements over the winter and coming in hot for the 2017 season.

Sick modz include Bilstein coil overs / dampers, M3 strut mounts, a Z3 steering rack, an electric transfer pump in the saddle tank, and a brand spankin' new clutch. We're also using Hawk Blue racing brake pads- they lasted through two 7 hour races. After spending the weekend with other (faster) E36's we realized we need to go full JDM in the camber department and probably run something a little wider than our 205/50R15 Direzza Star Specs (although they were great in the rain). And our TI needs to go on a huge diet.

Suggestions welcome! Our biggest issue with the car this year has been the Nissens OE radiator. We've gone through two already.. both with some form of leakage around the expansion tank. Has anyone had problems with these before? We were under the impression that Nissens was the better OE supplier. We're getting to the point where we think our RTV goop job should be considered stock.

Heroes!

If you ever need any parts, I've got just about anything M44 related that you could need ...

Looks great. I am slowly putting together a 318Ti for 24 Hour of LeMons, BMW CCA & Chump Car. It's going to get hammered with penalty laps because I don't know when to quit upgrading. These E36 cars are like Legos and makes them fun to put together.
Chump Car has a great selection tracks to choose from.
Who did your roll cage?

hey, I own that car! Lots of modifications are happening over the winter with the new rules that came out. Ill make sure to post progress as we go. Looks like this race may have done the stout M44 in, time for a rebuild! Currently looking to figure out a spring and damper set up that will allow us (with an LSD and 245's) some better corner exit speeds. So far I am looking in the 450# front 700# rears, the small amount of aero loading might change that though...

Give TC Kline a call. He actually put some of these together for BMW CCA racing
when the Ti came out.
