MY NEW Ti Raleigh NC

2 Attachment(s)
Just picked up a 97' 318ti from a great guy in raleigh. He has 17 cars and decided to let this one go. I've always wanted an older bmw and im very satisfied. I bought some 2007 style 159 rims off a 2007 3 series and I think they go great with the car. Great forum everyone, glad to be a part of the BMW family. A few questions if anyone is willing to answer.

1. I currently have 215/45/17 on the front and 225/45/17 on the back, is this bad or will it cause any problems, they dont touch or rub anything. (only used tires avail at the time)

2. How long should I expect my ti's engine to last, its got 116,600 on it and was a single female owner over 40. I'm guessing she didnt beat it to hell so I should be lucky if I treat it well.

Thanks everyone.

17 cars?!?!!!?!!

Those are the kind of people you usually want to buy something from- pretty good chance most of those cars don't get driven all the time and therefore are usually pretty low mileage.

If the wheel offset is stock or close enough to it, you shouldn't have any problem at all running those tires.

If the car was taken care of and you continue to do so, you shouldn't have any problem getting 250k+ out of that motor. There are, however, some weak links in the motor that you should be aware of and with 116k on the clock, they probably haven't been addressed yet. Namely, the cooling system (there are numerous threads on the forum as to what the issues there are, so I won't go into it), and smaller things like intake boots, crankcase valve, etc. Does it seem to run OK without misfires and does it make any sort of whistling/whining noises?

That's a pretty clean looking ti you got there...

Welcome!

Sorry I didn't specify. The guy I bought if from got it from that lady a month ago, fixed a couple things on it and I sold an ipad to him, saw the car, started talking to him about it and he said he'd sell it cause hes buys and sells cars all the time. He said he's stand behind it and he took me for a ride in his ferrari testarossa and 64 corvette too. great guy. insane amount of cars pre 1970's.

Gotcha. Those types of guys are pretty cool. You know what's usually even cooler than their car collections, their parts collections!
