Anyone know where to get the LEDs for the lights that light up the license plates at night? or the dome lights and foot lights for that matter??

You can get festoon (that's the fuse style name) bulbs with LED's retrofitted just about anywhere. eBay, random websites, autozone probably.

Glove box

Dome light
6411

Step/Courtesy light

License plate

BavAuto has a few kits, they're under performance lighting. It's pretty much the same prices on eBay IIRC.

Do you know the turn signals, sidemarkers, and rear lights by any chance?

StealthBimmer 01-04-2008 08:14 PM

This website can help you out on all your LED needs. Marv17 needed the east coast members to help him out.

In my personal opinion I would go with Bavauto.com. They have the kits for like 20 bucks for 24 leds on one fuse. Not bad. I have a pair in my front dome light. Very bright and fits with no problems. Everything was included in the kit.

Check out this page. I have pictures of everything on there. http://www.318ti.org/forum/showthrea...&highlight=led

Okay let's update this to help other members out. Posting another source for LED bulbs. The circuit board ones can be used for hard to fit locations. Maybe someone can give us a feedback once they tried the led out from this company. Give others the part number and location on the 318ti.

Alright, here's where I got mine. The seller's name is "led-world2007" on ebay. I bought (100) 5mm blue LEDs and (100) 3mm blue LEDs from this guy. It looks like he's out of 5mm LEDs at the moment, but I'm sure he'll list some more pretty soon. Just email him if you want 5mm blue LEDs or anything that he doesn't have listed.

They come with resistors which you'll need if you're replacing anything that isn't already LED ie; dome/map lights, footwell lights, headlight/foglight switch backlighting, instrument cluster, HVAC panel and cigarette lighter. Most of the other interior switches use LEDs and already have resistors wired in place.

I'm not gonna lie, some of the LEDs used in our AC/Defrost switches and clock are tiny and a PITA to to remove and replace. A few of them are smaller than an ant (and I'm not talking about army ants, I'm talking about those little tiny piss ants!) If you're not careful and sometimes even if you are, the soldering iron will burn right through the circuit boards in which the LEDs are mounted on.

I picked up a nice soldering/wood-burning kit at Harbor Freight for 6 bucks. Try to find one with a tiny needle point tip. I also bought a nice heatshrink kit to cover the leads and my soldering job on the LEDs.

Anyway,

Here's one of the auctions for LEDs:
http://cgi.ebay.com/100x-3mm-5000mcd...QQcmdZViewItem
They come from Hong Kong, so be patient it takes about two weeks to get here.

And this link was pretty helpful also:

Does anyone have LED in their corner lights? I have clear corners and I'm thinking about putting LEDs in them but I'm afraid they might be too bright or might look awkward. If so, do you have white or amber? Pics? :D

Marv17 02-29-2008 08:02 AM

hey ya go man. http://jlevistreetwerks.com/BMW-E36-...0924c0bada633c
i couldnt find the corners but that is for the sidemarkers. search that site and im sure it'll be on there. hope it helps.

Streetglow makes little pods with 6-leds in them, they're really bright and come in all different colors (including white) I'm not sure but I think they could be fitted in your trunk and dome lights

Maverix 07-21-2008 01:25 AM

Believe it or not, but you can purchase LED's for any size at Advanced Autoparts, PepBoys, or Auto Zone. I'd know because I had to stop by all 3 places to find the right color bulbs (I was searching for abnormal colors, like orange and red). And they LED's because that what I purchased from all the stores. The reason I had to stop by all of them was because I purchased all the LED's they had in stock (they only had 2 of each color).
