New BMW 3 Series Ti concept for 2012

On the return flight from business in Paris they came around with magazines and low and behold on the cover was a BMW concept I had not seen a 3 Ti!. So of course I snatched it up and this is what I saw inside:

And l'babblefish translation (cleaned up a little in case any of you french speakers notice):

BMW Series 3 Ti the Station-wagon Which Is not One

About the mark of which he is the boss, Norbert Reithofer explains: " We must seek categories or the premium is still absent, and to see how BMW still can develop." A sentence which implies that, tomorrow, the ranges will not be satisfied any more by the four traditional body: truck, cut, convertible and station-wagon. This testifies precisely to the future 3 Series, planned for 2012, which will add two original body alternatives to what exists. The first is a body of the station-wagon type, of which the name is not yet defined. We will call it a Ti. It can make one think of the famous Aston Martin "Shooting Brake" years 60, or why not? - the Z3 coupe of 1997. The race line of this future station-wagon has two doors induced however a limiting volume of loading, but this one will be able to increase thanks to folding seats. Such a model had already been evoked in its time for the current 3 Series but it was not retained. The next generation will thus have right there, and this Ti will arrive at the end of 2012. It will then cotoiera another curiosity, the 3 PAS Series, kind of truck-station-wagon five doors. Bulkier, this one will have a modularity orientee leisures, a concept that s' glossy has to make us discover the Series 5 PAS des 2009. With all these alternatives with the program, c' has to wonder whether the traditional truck will have its word still tomorrow has to say…

Thats pretty cool, I almost wish that they were doing it with the 1-series, just because the 1-series is closer in size to the E36/5 tis. Still though, very cool, hopefully it goes into production.

Eww, station wagon. No thanks. Reminds me to much of my uncles station wagon.

I'll stick with the Scirroco for the future.

It's too bad we won't see this on our shores till the end of that model line. Seems the biggest market for BMW is also the most conservative. Shame as they might sell more if people voted with their wallets.

I drove a Hyundi Genesis over the weekend, it was at air show for traffic purposes and the marketing rep gave me her number. Nice car for money. MB and Lexus and Infinti might want to take notice.

I totally agree! And it's not BMW only. It's other companies as well. Like VW.

If it does....it will be much to expensive like the 135i. It's 4k cheaper than the 335i who honestly wants it at that price hence why poor sales. knock 4K more off and you have the same size car as an E46 for a good price.

Yeah but that rear end is teh sex. I'd buy it, escpecially if it had a hatch that went up into the roof a' la Dodge Magnum.

Actually my babblefish is great. But thanks!

In writing this up I was curious what the hell a "Shooting Break" was so I wiki'd it. Turns out it goes all the way back to horse drawn hunting carriages in England. It had 2 seats up front for a driver and a shooter and 2 long benches in back for hunters, dogs, etc. Thus it had a long rear end, like the bimmer above. Later, the French still use the term "hunting break" for this body style and "break" for station wagon, the Brits say "shooting break". I actually deleted the word hunting from the translation before I knew this as I thought it was wrong. Kinda cool.
