What's up everyone, this is my first BMW and absolutely love it! My uncle gave me his 95 318ti recently, it has about 210K but still drives like a dream.

It is the base model in White. Drove it all the way from Raleigh, NC to Arlington, VA after I picked it up and the only issue I had was some wobbling at highway speeds in long turns (more on that later).

Since I've had it as my semi daily drive and taken it for inspection some of the more predictable issues for a 20 year old car have become clear:

Lower control arm ball joints are shot on both sides
Driver side strut is shot and leaking fluid
Window regulator motor is jamming
Knock Sensor #2 out (found this out via stomp test)
And yesterday while working on the control arms (left my wrenches at home so had to stop) I noticed severe oil leak residue underneath the car, like ALL over the place. I attached a pic

So my goal is to get this thing street legal first, and then have a little fun with some modifications and then get it on an Auto-X course. Been loving the community so far and look forward to discussing these cars on the forum!

Knock sensor can be tricky. I had a knock sensor fault and it was fixed by replacing wires and topping off the oil level.

Oil leak is probably the oil filter housing. Needs a new gasket and bushing.

Thanks - I see that there is a DIY on that topic in the notebook, so I'll check it out and post updates!
