Climate control gauge backlight not working Hey, I have a 1995 ti and yesterday I turned on my car to find that the back light to my climate control gauges was out. It's not a fuse I checked on that today. Any Ideas? Thanks, joe |
This should help: http://www.318ti.org/forum/showpost....&postcount=117 and here's a couple more pics: http://www.318ti.org/forum/showpost....&postcount=118 |
Is it just your climate controls? Does the instrument cluster(speedometer/tach), window/sunroof switches, door lock button and cig lighter light up? If all of the above are dark, then your headlight switch has a blown dimmer rheostat and you have a short somewhere(usually behind the radio). BTW, welcome to the forum! |
Thank you! That actually really helps. Its just my climate controls, every other light works. So I guess ill take it apart and look for a short. Thanks! |
No worries. If everything else works, you don't have to worry about a short. Just change the bulb. You don't even need to remove the HVAC panel to replace the bulb, just remove the radio, but make sure you have the code if it's a factory radio. |
awesome, will do! |
So I checked and it was a burnt out light bulb. Any idea where I might be able to get a new one? Pelican parts doesn't seem to have it |
Pelican sells them- you can find them here |
getbmwparts.com check the last picture in the first link I posted:wink: |
oh awesome, thanks =) |
My son and I just repaired his heater control light, which had burned out. When I saw that it required a "BMW" bulb with built in holder, I was not amused. I took pliers and pulled the bulb straight out of the bulb holder. Looking inside I saw two leads, took a T5 LED, bent the leads for the T5 out to match the holders leads...pushed the T5 in firmly...and it works great! Very bright, and I doubt we will have to replace it again. I had several of the T5 LEDs for dash replacement which I had ordered from Amazon, at the time they were less than a dollar each. |
^^^^^^^^^^^ You'll be repairing it again. Did you at least use a resistor inline? Aren't those bulbs 12v? LEDs run at 5v. |
UPDATE: The bulb is still working. |
