1997 318ti (Active?)

Well I've been trolling the forums here for some time as a guest. And now Im ready to take "the plunge" and get myself a ti. Pickings have been slim in Portland it seems (and maybe thats just the nature of the beast), but I am looking at this car as a good starter. Not exactly the exterior color I want, but I'm going to change that eventually anyways. Thoughts, comments, concerns, snide remarks, advice; anything is welcome. From what I've read it seems to be an active... but someone more informed may be able to tell me differently.

Fire away.

Looks pretty clean from here.

No dents, nice leather.

Check that the headliner is not coming off and check that the front swaybar mounts are not rusting off.

What about other things like clutch, etc? And as far as mileage goes what could I be looking at in the near future?

thesk8nmidget 04-14-2008 07:15 PM

very nice! seems clean may need a clutch very soon depending on how that was driven.

oregon doesnt have that many ti's and they are harder to come by but the price still seems a little steep!

Its sad but most cars in portland/oregon are expensive like that. FOr some reason either you have a nice car thats been well taken care of or a p.o.s. theres very little middle ground. BMW, mini, audi, etc. are popular here too so its a supply/demand. To me though... its worth the price just to get my hands on a straight ti in this area. Call me crazy.

thesk8nmidget 04-14-2008 07:22 PM

no your not crazy i would do the same thing.
EDIT: i am crazy though lol

i lived in eugene all my life. have been in texas for just a year now!

Am i right in my guess that it is an active trim?

roadrash 04-15-2008 05:24 AM

Based on the bumpers and side skirts, I'd say yes, it looks like an Active.

Just out of curiosity, what color would you paint it? That's not my favorite color either, but I'd hate to risk messing up a perfectly good paint job just because I didn't like the color.

Well id get it professionally done... if and when I did get it. So i dont know about messing anything up. I was playing around with ideas. I want something that not everyone has, which of course means the really good colors are taken. :)

Alpine white was definitely my color of choice for a while... but Im going to think long and hard about it. So right now its not decided. Recommendations are completely welcome...

My definition of a paint job being "messed up" includes changing the color and the original color is visible anywhere on the car, including under it, in the engine bay or inside in the hatch area. ANYwhere. I'm just weird like that though. LOL

Regarding "colors that not everyone has"... I've seen a lot more black, red, white and blue (I.e., the "good" colors) than I have the "Morea Green."

And finally, my usual disclaimer: "Ultimately, it's your car, so do what you want since you're the one who has to live with it and any changes in the value caused by your mod." hmmm... just might add that to my sig. heh heh heh

I completely agree. I think im going to save up and do a bunch at once. All my lights, my trim, spolier, etc. which mean it will be once i get back from the sandbox... so ill have lots of time to plan it. :)

Not sure how it would look on a Ti, but I always loved E46 M3s in Laguna Seca Blue.
