Old rims for snow, need advice for new wheels
 

My tires are completely used up. Therefore, now is a good time to upgrade wheels. I want to take my old 15 inch wheels and use them for snow tires. I live near Boston and snow tires are essential. I also wish to purchase a new set of tires and wheels for summer, but could use some advice for both. Being a grad student, I don't have tons of cash, but I hate cheap junk. I was leaning toward used wheels, but new tires. I tried semi-used snow tires, and am not happy with what I got.

Therefore, does anyone have advice on a good value for snow tires, and also summer tires and wheels? Also, I am not dead set on upsizing wheels for the summer set, but it would be nice if possible For example, 17" wheels usually cost more, but maybe there are some good used ones that fit from another BMW series, or there are some good 17" tires on special.

Thanks for helping me keep my student loans to a minimum. Maybe I can repay a little by donating some of my schools bandwidth until I get a job.
