Changeing OEM seats to Aftermarket sports / raceing seats... help? Hey I was wondering if anyone have tried to install raceing / sports seats into a TI? I may change my seats, but I got heated seats and airbags in the car, and was wondering if I can swap this from OEM seats to the aftermarket seats ? I know that its possible to take of the seatcovers on the seats I want to buy... Anyone know anything about this ? If I manage to change the seats and get airbag and seat heat working, il make a advanced How to / DIY for u guys, with write up and pictures =) |
just remember to disconnect the battery and let it sit for about a minute before you disconnect the sensors under the seat, otherwise you'll have an airbag light come on that you will need to clear with a scan-tool |
Already know that.... Hehe, thats the smallest problem I got... Im working at a BMW workshop as a BMW mechanic... So I can use the BMW diagnosis computer whenever I want to :P Had my Airbag light comming on several times when doing electrical work on my car... |
lol, better safe than sorry  out of curiosity, what seats are you installing? |
Im thinkin of installing these: http://www.grunt.se/images/svart%20tygsto.jpg Made of an swedish company... looks very clean and cool... Friend of mine already got those in his E30... and theyr awsome =) |
cool, good luck with the install, I don't understand wiring very well but there are plenty of other members who do who can help you out |
I think I'l be find... but some research wont hurt... And it could help alot!... I got a book covering all wireing that are in the whole 318ti. =) |
Right on. I'm thinking of doing the same, albeit w/ a seat I'm building. I don't own a ti (yet), but am working on it to put a prototype into. For those of you who can take a quick measurement, will a seat that's 21.5" wide fit? Thanks! |
How did you solve the problem of airbag occupancy sensor at passenger's seat? I wish to swap in a pair of racing seats but worry about the airbag light... |
As far as I know the airbag sensor is in the seat belt locker / connecter... ? Then you just have to use the OEM seat belts and lockers, should work... If u change steering wheel to a aftermarket one without airbag, u can just connect a 2ohm resistor to the airbag wireing... that should make the OBD system think u have a airbag... |
