Aftermarket Catalytic Converter

3 Attachment(s)
Bought an aftermarket catalytic converter from ebay. The buyer claimed it would be a bolt on fit. Surprise surprise it was not a bolt on fit. After forcing the catalytic converter into place (there was no damage to the catalytic converter) there was an awful rattle. I drove the car about 5,000 with this catalytic converter. Not only that the after market catalytic converter started throwing CEL errors. I have since read on these forums that some of these after market cats do not clean the exhaust enough for the O2 sensors so it throws an error. This was just a bad overall buy and a lessoned learned the hard way. I'm trying to get anything I can for this cat. I will consider any offers. http://www.318ti.org/forum/attachmen...1&d=1306189127

go to autozone, spend two bucks on spark plug defoulers.. drill the first one out and screw em together n put em on your o2 behind the cat.. no more cel..

Will the car still pass emissions. I am looking to sell it and i'd like it to pass MD inspection.

not sure about how your state checks but if you clear your codes the car should pass... however if the cat isnt doing it jub and they use a sniffer its hard to say.. but having a cat, with not codes seems like it should pass to me...

is your car obd1 or 2? 95 or newer? pre 95 are obd 1, reason i ask is there are two ways to have your cel codes cleared out for when they scan it...

i know my catless car gets a cel if left to idle for an extended period of time from the second o2...

well not everyones got the cash to live in cali n have nice new cats.. haha

if his cat works why not fool the sensor.. u could go on ebay n buy a resistor to fool the pre 96's or 40 bux for the obd2s... or you could buy a stock cat for too much money haha... just sayin.. this works if your in a bind..

my 2002 audi tt had an aftermarket cat because of the turbo swap n changed pipe so i ran the defoulers until i got the test pipe software.. to take the cel out because it put my car in zero boost retardo timing safe mode ha

If the catalytic converter was working, you wouldn't get a CEL and you wouldn't have to fool the sensor. Out of respect of this forum, I don't encourage people to break the law or try to cheat the system. It's not a money issue, it's a moral issue. It's like saying I can't afford insurance because I drive a Lamborghini. Doesn't make it right to drive uninsured.

It's obviously obd2 because of the post cat O2 sensor. You cannot just clear the codes, the ECM has to run a few cycles to get the "pass" The ECM tests the cats at intervals and compares the front and back sensors to see if the cat is functioning. If the tests haven't run, the car fails the emissions test.

If it's rattling ,the honeycomb has probably started to come apart.

You might be able to get a better cat to put on that pipe, like a magnaflow universal.

I'd be on the lookout for a used good one from a fellow forum member.

if you were offered Lamborghini to have and drive but couldnt insure it, youre saying you would never drive it?

laws are meant to be broken, freedom of speech.. you get the point.. its his choice what to do with information.

Just sent him one out today. So his cel will be over and done.
