low rumble or chugging at 60+ Going down the road I am getting a low chugging rumble at about 60+. No rough idle, no issues in city driving and clutch is smooth. Wonder what I need to look into. Engine has plenty of pulling power. I will get a video or two and post if nobody knows what i'm dealing with here. 1996 318ti mtech |
low rumble or chugging at 60+ Can a worn dual mass flywheel make the noise I am talking about? Sounds like a train chugging along when the engine is under load on the highway. Will not get a video until I drive home. |
Anytime anyone posts about unknown 'chugging/thumping' sounds that occur at speed or intermittently at certain speeds, the first two things that come to mind are: 1.) Worn/disintegrated flex disc; 2.) Worn/out of balance drive shaft. Good luck! :) |
Get it up to speed and push the clutch in, if the noise is still there then it might be a wheel bearings. |
1 Attachment(s) Yeah I have had work done on the drive shaft. The mount was pulled out. I will be taking the drive shaft to a local shop for new joints and balance. But the disc and the center bearing are new. I did post it on this thread because it sounded close to the trans but I'm still not sure. I installed new wheel bearings last week. Found the vacumm hoses from the injectors are all messed up. Imagine it will run better after I replace them. Thanks for the reply. More pics to come of my 318ti rebuild. |
