Seeking Pulley Related to D. A. Supercharger

I was wondering if anyone had any advice on where we could get an idler pulley. Ours just went south and when my husband called Downing Atlanta, they said they no longer make the supercharger or carry any parts.

Call again. Ask for Jim Goodroe and tell him what you need.

Some 2.5" double bearing flanged alternatives for consideration (Jackson Racing Miata supercharger idlers):

#051-628 (flanged pulley only)
#999-162 (flanged pulley and spacer)

Much more expensive than the original single bearing idlers.

Quite frankly the ones that come with the DASC are crap in regards to longevity. I can't recall ever getting more than a 1-1.5 years out of them (less than 10,000 mpy) so an alternative would be nice.

The bearings in the JR idlers are NSK 6200V bearings and the idler is nylon. I don't know who the OE supplier is. Would be much cheaper from the source. The price on these idlers has almost doubled in the last few years from the Miata suppliers. There's currently a 15% off sale at Moss.

Some have used flangeless metal idlers as well.

Cam belt idlers are good too. Some have double row bearings so should last an age.

Would it be possible by any chance to get one of you guys to measure the idler pulley plate? I have the two that go on a 1992-1994 engines, and I have a 1998 car.. Been scrounging parts all over for that... Might end up supercharging my E30 318is as a result :-) (plenty of leftover parts)

Hey everyone,

So the supercharger is on the car, the pulley plate is also on the car, the supercharger has a nice pulley, the assembly is almost completed.

My questions to everyone is - why not use the OEM BMW INA bearings? They have a diameter that is slightly bigger (2.75" vs the 2.5" claimed by others here), and they are probably as sturdy as a bearing can be, or am I missing something major?

had a guy fab me up some metal ones so will post a pic when they arrive

had one of the guys on e36coupe help me out and fab me up a set of pulleys with some decent bearings in etc so they should hopefully be here 2morro and i'll get them fitted and take a few pics!

got them fitted today although i've not tried them out yet as i limped the car to my home without the belt on and the battery is now dead :rolleyes:

I just replaced my pulleys today. The originals are available from a distributor of Fenner Drives products. Fenner doesn't sell direct. I happen to have a local distributor, Motion Industries, Blue Ash, OH. They got me the pulleys in one day.

I was able to source new bearings from Grainger, p/n 6L025, USD$9.76 each. They should be a better quality than the originals. I've put these into my old pulleys to save as spares. BTW, the bearings are a fairly ubiquitous model, 6203-2RS. They are available at many different price/quality points. They're 40mm OD, 17mm ID, 1.2mm wide.

The only problem is the shoulder adapter that is pressed into the bearing. Those are available from my Fenner distributor, but only in lots of 100. I simply reused mine (pressed them out of the old pulleys and back into the new ones). I'm looking for a couple of trashed pulleys so I can use the shoulder adapters to finish building two spares.

Cost of the pulley, p/n FA3002, which includes the bearing: USD$9.18 ea. The adapters, p/n SB0002, are very inexpensive, I just didn't want an extra 98 of them. :-)

One other thought: Fenner will sell the pulley with the shoulder adapter pressed into place. The only complication is finding a distributor who will place that order for you. I didn't bother since I really wanted to get my car back running in one day, which I was able to do.
