Replacing ignition switch?

Has anyone replaced an ignition switch?

The chime is always on with no key and door open.

If I spray contact cleaner in the switch (not the key) that sometimes clears it up.

The other day the car wouldn't start at all. It's not a battery issue.
Today the car started.

I really think that the switch is tarnished.

I'm thinking it'a fig 3 61328360925

Simple replacement and you are correct on the part number.

Hope that's it.

Super easy and just in time.
Now I need to fix the window on my other ti. :)

Friggin cars!
Worked for a few days. Switch was bad because the chime doesn't when the door is open and no key in the ignition.

Time to fix the window on my 96. Broken regulator.

I got to get rid of these old cars.

I suspect that one of the spammers you banned might have some sort of a "voodoo doll" for your car.

Makes as much sense as anything else.
This morning the car wouldn't start.
Get home from work, it starts!

Well Damn!

I'm wondering at this point is if you repaired one item (ignition switch) just to have another appear. It is almost seeming like a starter that is going out/dying. Had the same a while back, would crank/start then the same it wouldn't do anything! Replaced the starter and it was just fine. I'm not one to suggesting replace parts along the way to fix, but having your starter tested may not be a bad idea.

I'm sure the ignition switch was bad because the chime would go on when the door was open and no key. I'd spray contact cleaner and fiddle with the wires and it would work normally. Since replacing the switch the chime has been working normally.

I'm thinking the starter too but I was on a slight hill and I tried to pop the clutch to start the car. Didn't start but I wasn't moving very fast.

Could be your antenna ring on the key cylinder that is going bad. Ews won't allow the car to start with no signal from that!

Any way to tell?

One of the codes you can pull from the diagnostic port lets you know if the dme is not getting that signal. I don't think it is an obd2 code.
