Offset and Rubber size question

Ok it's been some time since I posted on here and deployed to afghanistan at the moment and looking to buy BBS style 5's for the red ti when I get home in a couple of months. The wheel is a 17x8 with an offset of 40MM, I'd like to get 225/40 17's. Will I have rub issues on a lowered car? Or will it work? Is anyone else running the same setup? Thanks.

I've run 235x40 on a 17x8.5 without any rubbing issues. You might have some on the inside front wheels when at full lock. Also, my 235 is an r-comp track tire, which will be wider than a street tire 235. Bottom line, 225 should not be a problem.

Are you 100% certain about the 40mm offset? BBS style 5's came on e39's primarily, and they came with a 20mm offset and slightly larger center bore. If this is the case with the rims you are looking at, you will need hubcentric rings to properly mount them on the car, and with 20mm offset, the 225/40's will most likely rub. I am running e39 style 5's and had to go with a 215/40 and a slight fender roll to eliminate rubbing.

If you have a set with a 40mm offset, then the 225's will be fine...
