How much weight do you want to lose? My car has lost almost 500 lbs.

You know the funny thing is that my car is down about 400 pounds. I probably have another 100 pounds in seats, and sunroof. Of course, if I ever actually use my car in any organized race events I'll have to put weight back in to get it to minimum weights. I think the minimum weight for BMWCCA IP is 2600 pounds.

The next project is seats, harnesses, and a rear roll bar. Once that is in done I'll finish the weight stripping, and get the car weighed and corner balanced.

Just do NASA GTS. It honestly seems like the best club racing series out there. Your class is determined by your RWHP and Weight. It doesn't have any of the kind of silly do one thing and get bumped up to an insance class deal.

I am hoping to get my car down to 2100-2000 lbs. If I am lucky and have 135 hp at the wheels that would put me in GTS-2. I still have a ton of things that can bre removed such as the sunroof, more wiring, heater core, and quite a few other just random bits that serve no purpose any more.

The BMWCCA racing rules are pretty good as well. I was keeping myself to prepared class which has weight restrictions by car type, not by the horsepower to weight ratio. Club racing modified does it by power/weight. But modified is a lot more expensive class to compete in. Requires full fire suppression etc... Most modified class cars are running custom suspensions with motons or comparable racing suspension systems. Professionally prepped cars. I know there are several of the top modified class cars that cost in excess of $150k.

At this point I'm a long way from having a competitive license so I'm just making it as light as I can. In a year or two after completing race school and another 5-10 DEs I'll really start to figure out the best group to race with in Florida.

It is either BMWCCA/PBOC, or NASA for the most part in this area.
