I don't know which toy is going to be wearing new shoes by the end of the day... Well, I'm off to go get hypnotized by shiny things... |
have fun polishing. (It sucks!!) |
I recall your polishing fun... |
my birthday's on the 25th you know... :drdodgy: lol, jk, sweet rims, I vote for them to go on the ti |
Of course I want to put them on the ti, they would look amazing! But these are Style 5's from an e39. Do you think they will rub a little? See for yourself... http://i287.photobucket.com/albums/l...s/IMG_2980.jpg http://i287.photobucket.com/albums/l...s/IMG_2981.jpg http://i287.photobucket.com/albums/l...s/IMG_2982.jpg http://i287.photobucket.com/albums/l...s/IMG_2983.jpg The tires that came with them are 245/45/17's... Um, just a little too big... I knew there wasn't a chance in H.E.Double.Hockeysticks that they would fit, but I threw them on for giggles, kicks, and pics. However the tires are literally new (still have the little nubs...), so I want to get some use out of them before I buy some stretched rubber and a fender roller... So, I mounted them on the coupe which still has a factory suspension (no drop); http://i287.photobucket.com/albums/l...s/IMG_2985.jpg http://i287.photobucket.com/albums/l...s/IMG_2988.jpg And, presto, no rubbing! (kinda sorta, if you don't count speed bumps or pot-holes.) |
Look really good. I like them on the M3. I need to get me some new headlights like yours. Mine are still stock. Ugh  And I need that lip on my front bumper as well. Haha. O well the rims are looking great though. |
Thanks, Will... The rims on the coupe give me a real old school thrill... takes me back to my old Mopar days... I had a 1967 Barracuda with centerlines and a dropped front. Oh, to be 17 again... |
DAMN!!!!.... The Coupe looks MEAN!....... with those |

get smaller tires & you should be set... I've actually seen 205 & 215-40-17s on fleabay. great wheels man - clean car too... :_pelvic2: P.S. you may even wanna try to sell the big tires & make some money back -they look kinda new... |

So, the search is on for a decent smaller tire and a fender roller... might as well do both, just to be safe... Angel, what size tire did you end up using? |
not sure how wide your new wheel is, but 7.5 width with 235-40-17s on a droped suspension (no coils though) will not rub... no fender rolling neccessary either. however, if you go super low (like with coils or bags) try and find 215-40-17s - as with those there is no way you'll rub (again, no fender rolling)... if you feel ballsy, you may even wanna try 205-40-17s, but you may risk wheel damage and curb rash if you hit a pot hole... whatever you do - get some pics up here after you are done - so we can check it out... |
Thanks for the tip Marko, I have some good 235/40/17's on the other rims, so I will swap them and give it a whirl! |
When I had style 42's on my ti(same fitment as style 5's), I had to run 215/40/17's since my car was lowered on Z3 H&R race springs. Even then, they still rubbed a little which I found out later wasn't the actual fender, it was the top corner of the rear bumper rubbing. I also ran hubcentric adapter rings, since the centerbore on e39 wheels is 74.1mm while the centerbore on the e36 is 72.56mm(this kept them from vibrating). In your case with the M3 James, as long as you keep it stock ride height, you should be able to run 225/40's or maybe even 235/40's without rubbing. It's the 45 aspect ratio sidewall that's causing the rubbing. The only problem is when you run 40 series tires on a stock height e36, you get a little gap in the wheel arch. That's why most people lower the car to fill the gap which then opens the issue of rubbing which is then counter acted by running narrower tires such as a 215/40. My car is pretty much as low as I can go without cutting the springs or running coilovers. Since I want to run 235/40's, my only option is to pull the fenders or go widebody. A fender roll simply isn't enough. Anyway, congrats on the new wheels, they look great! Any chance you wanna buy a set of gold centers:tongue: |
