WTB Automatic Trans for '98 318ti Sport

My Automatic Trans ('98 ti Sport) is on last legs. (170,000+ miles). With all the swaps going on (Auto > Manual) someone is bound to have a low mileage auto tranny setting around. If not? Clue me up on a reputable salvage yard. Any technical insight and/or 318ti guru-ism is appreciated. Thanks y'all!

where are u located?

roadrash 07-12-2006 08:55 PM

That's funny... I was about to ask the same question... and I bet for the same reason. LOL

96cali 07-12-2006 09:37 PM

Yeah, but a auto tranny should be easy enough to find locally since 318i's used them and technically I think any auto 32x or M3 auto would fit too. I just wouldn't ship it for damage and weight.

BTW I'm going ahead with the deal with Ed- sending off a fat check tomorrow. The salvage car had too many unknowns.

The woods of Western Kentucky. 2 hours NW of Nashville. 3.5 hours SE of St. Louis. I have to go toward town to HUNT!

Can anyone confirm that it's the same Auto Tranny from any E-36? I'm ASC+T. Not to mention ADD...oh look, something shiney! Thanks.

96cali 07-13-2006 03:46 AM

Well ASC+T works through your cars 4 channel ABS brake system to slow down wheels as they slip. AFAIK it's not part of the drivetrain so to speak and should not affect tranny choice. Verify that with an expert though please. I'd start searching locally really- if you can't find a decent used tranny down there I have a contact in Memphis and SC for you. Those suckers are not easy to ship though. :yikes:

I am also looking for a tranny and so far I had no luck. I looked it up and it seems that it might fit but I don't want to chance it. anyone else have anny more experience in this subject

Ridgerunner,

Just read your post. I have an auto out of my 99 ti with 89K on it. The car was my sister's until she killed it. I'd need to get it out of the car still, but I'm in Bowling Green on the weekends and could get it that far.

Let me know if you are interested (PM me if you'd like).

Thanks
John "Hans" A

I'm selling my 1996 auto transmission and I’m located not too far away from you. I've sent you a PM with details.

the good news... i have two automatic tranny

the bads news... i'm from puerto rico....sorry

ridgerunner 07-13-2006 04:46 PM

Appreciate it 96cali. I've caught wind of a tranny in Bowling Green thanks to JohnA. That's not too far upstate. If it fizzles, I'll gladly try your hookups in Memphis. Not too worried about freight. I'm here is PICK-UP TRUCK COUNTRY and everybody's got one in the driveway (with 2 or 3 old 'uns out behind the barn) so, if need be, I'll just air-up the tires and head to Memphis.
Anybody feel good about which Auto Trannys can bolt-up?
