Starting with this. Extracted the rotten tooth of a whining water pump.

Before I swapped the wheels, your car and my wife's TI could be twins.

How do you back out of that space?

Oh yeah? Cool. Yeah I love my "little hot rod" as the guys at my work call it.

The car is in good shape but definitely some small touches that need to be addressed. Door handles, springs, radio etc etc.

This is the car at work (Valeting in Portsmouth, NH) I got a lot of compliments ;)

Interesting now as this was a low selling model here in the States..

It must be because that most don't know about our cars since you could consider them "rare" in the US :)

Tonight, I received my package for the new idle control valve. I am still trying to figure out this very annoying whining though. I've replaced the water pump but its still there. It happens only after the engine is warm. Its a loud humming coming from the intake manifold area. Any ideas? The engine is still a bit rough on idle.

Oh and what the heck is this and why do I need it?

handballallday 03-25-2015 03:05 AM

my neck hurts.

Derek, what part are asking about? The intake tube?

I should have been more clear (it was late last night).

I am chasing a vacuum leak somewhere in my car. I know that vacuum leaks affect idle so I bought an idle control valve and installed it. It helped with the idle but it still isn't perfect.

Now I also am trying to diagnose a loud whining sound coming from the intake manifold. It will only happen once the engine has gotten up to temp and I was asking what else it could be considering that I replaced the water pump. I also wasn't sure if vacuum leaks could make such a noise.

And the last picture I was asking what that intake tube was and why is it necessary.

Derek;

It's tough to diagnose via internet, but have you checked your PCV valve? If that is bad, you will get a loud whine/wheeze noise.

And that elephant trunk hose is your factory cold air intake... ;)

That car looks great. The White TI's are really growing on me.

The one vacuum tube that can be seen in your photo (in the front of the upper mani) looks new.

I don't know if I'd describe vacuum leak as whining. If it isn't throwing any codes maybe it is another accessory. Maybe check out the the Alt.?
