Installing new half shafts! ISSUES!!! I am installing some new e30 halfshafts. I made sure the splines are the same as my old ti ones but they really are not going through the hub. I know the spline is ok as i can push it in and it will grab. But i cannot get it any futher than about half way through the splined hub. I can get the end of the threaded section just about flush, which sucks as i am sure if i could get the nut on the end i could pull it through. Anyone had this happen and if so whats the secret?? tHANKS LEE |
Did you remove the ABS sensors from the trailing arms? If not, and you tried to force it through, there's a good chance that you've damaged the sensors. The e30 ABS halfshafts have larger tone rings and the Ti's sensors need to be shimmed. |

CJ76 in either case makes an interesting point - if you haven't removed the sensors, that might be a good place to start. Cheers |
Did you install a medium case differential (e30)? If not the stock ti small case differential is narrower than the medium case diff and it will not work with the shorter e30 axles. |
Yes i have the medium case e30 diff that i just put in, i did remove the abs sensors. its just a matter of the tight fit of the splines. I am surprised how tight they are. I have done a lot of half shaft replacements before and never had this much hassel! |
The half shafts were just a very tight fit! Wasnt fun to get them in. They are in and working now. Thanks everyone. |
Yep, definitely make sure you have removed the abs speed sensors, clean the area, and apply a generous helping of grease to the splines. 15 minutes later, you should be done :) |
