Interchangeability?

Anyone know if i can use the rockers off of a 328i??? im already buying the engine and other random parts, just wondering if i can use those as well as after a little closer inspection of my car shows that im going to need to replace those, they are a little rusted out. Or dose anyone know of a sideskirt package that replaces the rockers instead of just going on top? Thanks alot to anyone who can assist in this

As far as I know, all sideskirts from any e36 are interchangable amongst models.

TroyWagner 04-30-2010 10:02 AM

thank you very much!

The plastic side skirts are the same, but I'm not sure about the actual metal rocker panels underneath the side skirts. If your car didn't come with plastic side skirts, you'll need to drill holes in the metal rockers to install the clips that hold the plastic side skirts on. Of course, if you do this, make sure you get all of the metal shavings out and seal the bare metal left from the drilling with some sort of corrosion preventing primer or something. Otherwise they'll just rust again.

so the rockers them selves may not be interchangeable? :S

they should be, i would assume as long as they are same body style?
though im no expert, but if the wheel base is different on sedans and coupes compared to the ti hatch wheel base then they would not fit? i dont know your best bet is to measure the length of them (yours and the ones your looking to buy)
if they are the same length i dont see any reason they wouldnt fit..

cooljess76 04-30-2010 10:03 PM

I'd do a physical comparison before I started hacking up the car. This isn't something that is very common, so it might be kinda difficult to find someone who has actually done it before.

how bad is the rust? any good body shop should be able to repair it for a whole lot less than the cost of cutting the old metal out, welding the new metal in and painting

Check out post# 5. poster even mentions part number.

This should confirm all the answers as far as fitment.

Good luck!

oops just found that this part# was for coupe side skirts only, but you should be good man.

And you were referring to E36 skirts in your OP?

TroyWagner 05-01-2010 09:49 AM

bamaland, as far as i know they are the same through out (only because the sideskirts are all the same) and ill check size/ length before putting any money down on it

cooljess, i planned on checking it out first, i was just wondering if someone could save me some time, but i guess it is a little uncommon, thank you though

tiFreak, It isnt terrible... But i figured it might be worthwhile changing them out completely, also the cutting and welding i can do myself as i have all the equipment on hand in my home garage, also i plan on getting the whole car re-painted anyways, so its not a huge deal that way either, but depending on the amount of work, it might be cheaper to get a body shop to do it i suppose, ill have someone take a look at it see how much itll cost to repair it, cause it wont be much to buy the ones off this guys 325 (he's parting it out for pretty cheap all around, im getting the engine (after it checkes out on a compression test) for around 800 with full wiring and ecu and everything, also something im tackling at home)

Mr.Crow, Thank you, ill check these out right away see what i can find

and to "everyone" thanks alot, youve all been really helpfull, thanks again

cooljess76 05-01-2010 10:32 AM

well, I suppose I can extend a little more help, just been a little busy lately. I happen to have an M3 coupe and a 318ti sitting in my garage. Tomorrow I'll go out and measure both rockers and supply you with some more info:wink:

TroyWagner 05-01-2010 09:26 PM

that would be cool :) thanks
