I got a little done yesterday. The carbon was CAKED on. I had to let the alcohol soak in multiple times. I ran out of scotch brite pads so I will be finishing up Saturday. Before: http://i830.photobucket.com/albums/z...psa698b30f.jpg After an Hour: http://i830.photobucket.com/albums/z...ps13e1eec1.jpg http://i830.photobucket.com/albums/z...psb852526c.jpg I'm trying to think of an easy way how to get the rest of the carbon out of the reliefs. Here is how I had to leave off yesterday: http://i830.photobucket.com/albums/z...ps8fd4362a.jpg It was way too cold and rainy to try and paint anything on my rear subframe too=/ In excellent news, the wheels got their first coat of powder yesterday. They would be done, but Shaun ran out of clear. Not a problem. They should be all done next week. http://i830.photobucket.com/albums/z...psd947b57e.jpg http://i830.photobucket.com/albums/z...ps310a4448.jpg |
Wow, those wheels are going to be spectacular! |

Not a problem bud. I understand life. I'll text you later. |
I was just looking through old pictures yesterday and found a few that I don't think I ever posted. I cannot wait for the car to have a fresh coat of black=) I should have also cut my bumpstops way back when. It definitely sat too high. Definitely needed spacers too. Oh well=) http://i830.photobucket.com/albums/z...pse2c0d8b1.jpg http://i830.photobucket.com/albums/z...ps43d5cb2c.jpg http://i830.photobucket.com/albums/z...psd2a131f6.jpg |
I finally got my rear subframe parts all painted up=) I didn't take any final pictures like I thought though=/ I also realised that one of the wheel bearings is really bad and needs to be changed. I ended up getting all of the carbon off of the pistons, but yet again I didn't take any pictures. Here are the only pictures that I took: Before clearcoat: http://i830.photobucket.com/albums/z...ps5c198793.jpg Sprayed the brake shields and hubs: http://i830.photobucket.com/albums/z...ps04ca92da.jpg Painted the diff black: http://i830.photobucket.com/albums/z...psc2f34606.jpg Wednesday I will take pictures of them all finished. I will be pressing in the new bushings too hopefully. It is supposed to be warm for once, so I should be able to get some primer and paint on the block finally. |
I got a little bit done yesterday. I started by taping off the block. I ended up running out of tape so I could only one side=/ http://i830.photobucket.com/albums/z...ps12b36372.jpg I then laid down some primer: http://i830.photobucket.com/albums/z...ps4a80162e.jpg I then had to wait for that to dry, so I started working on the bay again. I busted out a propane torch, wire brush, and pallet knife. Passenger side: http://i830.photobucket.com/albums/z...ps77df314e.jpg http://i830.photobucket.com/albums/z...ps28afeebf.jpg http://i830.photobucket.com/albums/z...ps2b4e3456.jpg Driver side: http://i830.photobucket.com/albums/z...ps62f9db4a.jpg http://i830.photobucket.com/albums/z...ps85834953.jpg I ended up having to quit that for the day because my brush bit the dust: http://i830.photobucket.com/albums/z...ps9782b50a.jpg http://i830.photobucket.com/albums/z...ps991c4a9a.jpg By this time the primer was dry, so I laid down the paint: http://i830.photobucket.com/albums/z...psdffb53a1.jpg http://i830.photobucket.com/albums/z...psa51beacd.jpg http://i830.photobucket.com/albums/z...ps8dd8102c.jpg It was supposed to have more of a champagne tint to it, but it definitely looks good=) It looks like liquid mercury. Hopefully Saturday I will get the other side painted, as well as removing the crank bolt to pull the timing cover. I also snapped a few crappy pictures of my rearend parts finished up: http://i830.photobucket.com/albums/z...ps6da82bc6.jpg http://i830.photobucket.com/albums/z...ps2f27b340.jpg And a shot of the pistons clean: http://i830.photobucket.com/albums/z...psee508e4e.jpg More to come Saturday=) |
I just realized how nice it would be to have a minty clean engine. Well done. |

I got a little done on Saturday, but it doesn't look like much. I started off by painting the other side of the block. Both sides turned out really well. http://i830.photobucket.com/albums/z...ps3113f7a3.jpg The color came out brighter and more silver than what I wanted, but it will work well with the rest of the colors. Most of the rest of the day was spent with a propane torch and wire brush. I still have a lot of seam sealer to get out of little nooks and crannys. I'm really hoping I can get it out soon so that I can weld the seams up, grind them flat, and then smooth out the whole bay. I really want to be done with that so that I can just fit the wheels, and then send the car off for paint. http://i830.photobucket.com/albums/z...ps0ffc7f8e.jpg http://i830.photobucket.com/albums/z...ps63d4be10.jpg I'll hopefully be ordering a ton of parts this week so I can slowly cross things off of my list. I also need to replace a wheel bearing in the rear so that I can put the subframe back in. Last thing I got done was a little cleaning on the steering rack. I ran out of brake cleaner=( http://i830.photobucket.com/albums/z...ps16e1fbd4.jpg I'm hoping some more exciting updates will come sooner than later. |
Progress. Lookin' good |
I got another little chunk of work done yesterday. I wanted to smooth out all of the old bracket mounting points. I grabbed a 120 grit flap wheel and went to town. http://i830.photobucket.com/albums/z...ps9a49e7fa.jpg http://i830.photobucket.com/albums/z...pscea71152.jpg http://i830.photobucket.com/albums/z...ps7198d4d8.jpg http://i830.photobucket.com/albums/z...ps42fc7c6e.jpg http://i830.photobucket.com/albums/z...psa75ea1f3.jpg I then got most of the seam sealer finally removed from the corners. Some of it is still in that very tight corner. I think I'll need to use a pick to get that out. http://i830.photobucket.com/albums/z...ps9370b9a1.jpg http://i830.photobucket.com/albums/z...ps2246bbbf.jpg http://i830.photobucket.com/albums/z...psa6a5cbe1.jpg I then put the subframe bushings in. http://i830.photobucket.com/albums/z...ps34152570.jpg http://i830.photobucket.com/albums/z...ps1d58dc0c.jpg I went to put the trailing arm bushings in and ran into a snag. I got the end with the sleeve pressed in with the help of a hammer, but I could not get the other end to come in any farther than pictured=( I didn't happen to have a c clamp handy, so I will be using one today to get them fully seated. http://i830.photobucket.com/albums/z...psd0ad8fef.jpg I will be going to the shop today after work, and also on Sunday. I'll post the updates Monday=) |
I've heard of others having issues with those bushings. It will a nice ride with new ones tho. I need to do mine too. |
It's not an issue. They just need to be pressed in since they're made to be a tight fit=) |
