Driveshaft tunnel liner?

I replaced the fuel filter on my ti the other day, and while I was under the car, I noticed a few other things :/

first is the liner above on the driveshaft: https://www.dropbox.com/s/d5u7i7gt7b...52.30.jpg?dl=0

the end is falling down, and rubbing on the driveshaft. What's this liner for? just sound deadening? Any reason I shouldn't just cut the end off?

The other problems I found are the exhaust bracket end rusted off, and one of the bushings sheared. At >$60 for new parts, I'm gonna pass on this (maybe see if I can get to the one in the junkyard, but I don't think so, the car is sitting on the ground). And the transmission is leaking it seems.

I cut mine out, It is for sound and I think possibly for heat insulation as well. I really only use mine for AutoX so the extra noise (not really noticeable) and heat (again, not noticeable) really don't bother me. I have also lost the muffler support you describe. It has been gone since I bought the car 6 years ago. I have deleted the resonator and the muffler shop that did it welded in a straight pipe in its place and it holds up well without the support.

awesome, thanks for the response! 6 years with no exhaust bracket is reassuring to hear, guess I really won't worry about that.

My ti is already pretty noisy, so a little more won't hurt a ton. I'll just cut out the section that's falling down and be done with it. I'm actively trying to be as cheap as possible with this car.

I've always wondered if someone has found a good replacement for that channel liner. Mine is sagging as well.

I assume the answer is to remove it and insulate from the inside. But am all ears if someone knows of a product that can hold up on the outside.
