AC Schnitzer Type 1's - Offset and Tire Info Needed

Hey Guys,

My Dad bought a set of AC Schnitzer Type 1's for his E30 M3 to run wets, but the offset is too small and he doesn't want to get spacers to make them fit. So I have the chance to put them on my Ti.

The first question is with regard to the "standard" Ti offset (is it 30-40mm)?

The Type 1's spec's:
  • Offset is 13mm
  • 17 x 8.5J

If I get 20mm spacers will this give me the correct offset? and what are the risks with running spacers?

The next question is what size tires should I run? I'm thinking of 235/45/17 to keep the roll diameter the same, does anyone else run these?

Cheers Matt

I'm not sure why your Dad thinks the wheels need spacers; 13mm is the correct offset on an 8.5" wide wheel for an E30 M3. It would not make sense to add spacers. As for a ti, adding a 20mm spacer would make it a -7mm offset making the wheels stick out from the fenders on a ti by roughly 2".

I hope this helps,

Cheers,

He tried the wheels on over the weekend and they hit the front brake calipers, so can't use them without spacers. Not sure if he has different brakes or not that might have caused it.

Anyway, its good for me! I'll give them a go at the weekend.

Thanks for your help.

Just out of interest, what offset are your wheels?

that is strange.. the low offset should clear the calipers easy! its the wheel arches he needs to watch ;)

got a pic of the old mans e30? :P

Btw, i run an offset of 37 on an 8.5 x 18, and they fit good ;)

I'll get some when I see him at the weekend. I'll also get a few of the M5 too.

Thanks for your help.

He's most likely installed a big brake kit, as that low offset should definitely clear the OE calipers.
I'm running a 40mm offset with 18x8.5" wheels and a 10mm spacer to clear the big brake kit which gives me a 30mm offset. This set-up required major arch work in the rear and major negative camber in the front. So, I repeat 13mm is the wrong offset for your ti.

Cheers,
