Washer won't work, wipers too!
 

My first question, did do a search but can't find anything! My rear windscreen wiper stopped working, and then soon after the washer jets stopped working too. I thought they were separate problems so I checked to see if there was current going to the washer motor, which there was. When I disconnected the washer motor the rear wiper started working perfectly! So it wasn't the washer motor. I replaced the control box thing under the glove box but it still is exactly the same. I have no idea what's wrong, any ideas? Guess it must be a short somewhere?

Edit: I had a go at sorting it today, I disconnected the rear wiper motor just to eliminate it from my investigations. I connected up the washer motor and it ran really slowly for two seconds then died. Then it wouldn't run again. It did this with both the new and old motor so I know they are fine. There is about 10.5V going to the pump and about 0.16A. I have no idea on this one and its really annoying me especially as it has started to rain and its damn cold!

Could you explain a little more what you did to test? For example you mention an old and new motor but you don't say what motor's they're for and how you tested them to make sure they work.

Is your washer fluid reservoir full or near empty. If near empty, you may want to temporarily fill with water while you debug this problem. Could be that the fluid level sensor is misreading or has a large dead zone and reads low fluid as none.

What is your battery voltage? Or better yet, have you tested with the engine on? (that would eliminate weak batteries from the equation).

I can't make a guess as to what your current readings suggest since I don't know the specs for the wiper motors or the fluid pumps. So I can't approximate for you what normal operating RMS voltage or current should be.

Cheers for the reply, I finally found out that it was just the switch. The wiring digaram is really hard to read and because there is two switches that move at once I found it really hard to test it. It seems pin 1 <-> 5 and pin 7 <-> 8 need to be connected for the washer to work. The block is situated at the opposite end of the stalk (just added that incase anyone needs that info for future reference!).
