Another one bites the dust... Unfortunately, another TI bites the dust. My son came out from studying to find his car missing from the front of his house. I had him check to see if was stolen or towed. In talking to a neighbor, he discovered that our 97 Slicktop was actually backed into twice while it was parked on a hill in San Francisco. It was rammed into by an elderly lady in a 2012 Buick Lacross so hard, it left her rear bumper imbedded in the TI's drivers fender. She rotated the car 90 degrees into the street. It eventually was towed to an impound lot as it was blocking the street. I suspect it won't rub out. The good thing is no one was hurt. We lucked out as the impacts were captured by a neighbor's home security cam and we have video and pictures of the car. Basically a hit and run with a $600 tow as well. https://youtu.be/mY5yCCp3PbA This was a 1997 M Sport Slicktop I renewed and set up for my son. It will be towed back to Sacramento to part out to serve other cars. He just took this car to AutoX with me late July where it performed quite well. I'll pull the engine/drivetrain, coilovers, suspension braces, M exterior and interior parts, doors, HIDS, Roundels, stereo and wheels. The engine runs strong, as I recently renewed it and will keep it as a spare for my track car. The coilovers/camber plates will make it over to the 97 Z3. All other parts will be available for pickup for larger parts. I hate parting out TI's, I'd rather renew them to get back on the road... :frown: |
Another one bites the dust... Good news! All is covered by insurance. The other party claimed responsibility and all tow, impound release and damage is being addressed. It helps that we have the same insurance carrier. Geico mentioned they will cover all repairs, but, I believe this will be a total out. http://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/2016...b40281801c.jpg I get to pull all the premium parts back out of the car now over the next two weekends and into another TI. I'm down to three now. My wife will like that for sure... My son is bummed as he has had the TI officially for three days... I'll set him up with a M42 TI instead... That really sucks man! You should keep the ti as a track car, not including paint it should be rolling for around a grand. |
What was the women's deal? |
Another one bites the dust... Frame is bent. [emoji35]. She whacked it pretty good. Ended up separating the top of the TA coil over on the Drivers side. No idea about her situation. She did claim responsibility tho... Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
Holy cow! That video is insane! How in the heck?.....? 2x that hard? With other traffic on the street to boot. ...it is waay to easy to hold a license in this country. Its hard to believe that it wasn't intentional. Grandma sending a message to those dagum kids! |
Sorry for your loss! My car is a M-sport slicktop originally, but a PO installed a ridiculous glass moonroof on it. Could I interest you in selling me the slicktop roof panel and headliner? PLEASE??? |

Are you in Mississippi? Thinking about how it would ship out there for a reasonable price due to size.... We can discuss if we get to that point. No SlickTops in yards in your neck of the woods? |
The first hit could be accidental. The second one is purposeful. Wow. Just. Wow. |
First dibs on the HIDS. |

Good news is the bumper carrier is slightly bent, but the main frame looks straight. x-Brace and strut tower bars may have helped. Once I get a check from the company, the determination on save or salvage will begin. 80% probability I will part it out. 20% (or higher) I will have a better platform for a track car and retire the Cali from track and Auto-X duties. |

Ok, if it doesn't become a track car, you've got dibs and we can discuss the logistics of what gets cut where and shipping. Cheers. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
Sorry to hear about the loss. I hate to see classics lost. What seats do you have in it? I am considering upgrading from my base seats. |
