BMW M42 (M42B18) OBD1 engine swap package.
Included in the swap package are the related engine components needed to do an engine swap that would otherwise cost you a small fortune. Most importantly everything that is included in this package are the correct parts for this engine.

About the engine:
The donor car is a 1995 BMW 318ti (production date 05/1995) so all parts and accessories are used working condition. I've owned the car since it had 16K miles and it has been meticulously maintained and not abused or overheated. The engine has excellent compression on all 4 cylinders and was getting 30 mpg average for highway driving while producing a reliable 140 hp. The engine has just over 133K miles on it, I've run Mobil 1 synthetic exclusively and the inside of the engine is extremely clean . It has no leaks and runs great and does not smoke or knock. I removed it from my ti because I swapped a M50TU 6 cylinder so I no longer need this engine. This particular M42 has variable length intake runner (BMW calls it DISA or Dual Resonance Intake System). This feature added low end torque and more horsepower to the 1.8L e36 318 models. This is the later model M42 motor which is not prone to the profile gasket failure (the earlier pre '93 models were susceptible to this problem which led to overheating).

Also included is a wiring schematic for this engine to assist in an engine swap into an earlier model BMW.

This auction includes the following:
M42B18 Engine
Complete Engine Wire Harness (intact)
ECU
Ignition Coil Pack
Mass Air Flow Meter, Air Box & Bellows
All Engine Sensors
Intake and Exhaust Manifolds
All Engine Covers
All Engine Sensors
Alternator (reconditioned)
Power Steering Pump (no leaks)
A/C Compressor (works good)
Starter (working)
Thermostat (recently replaced)
Water Pump (recently replaced)
Motor Mounts
Belts
Radiator Hoses (recently replaced)
Catalytic Converter (with O2 sensor) - Optional

*Note - the flywheel is not included

Applications:

Direct Fit -
* 1992–1995 E36 318i/318is/318ti

Other Applications (see *Note below) –
* 1989–1991 E30 318iS
* 1989–1991 E30 318i
* BMW E21s.
* BMW 2002s

*Note: The M42 is a relatively inexpensive swap for the ‘other applications’ listed above. The M42 produces more usable power than the M10 engines, while still being lighter, plus utilizing modern EFI and direct-ignition and a much improved valve train.

wow, if a 130k engine can look that good I must REALLY get mine cleaned!

chrisbec 11-02-2010 03:32 PM

Yea, it's clean, I've tried to keep up with it while I had it in the car.
One big reason it looks good is because it doesn't have any corrosion on the aluminum parts. I live in central FL so corrosion isn't really an issue.

vsonix 11-03-2010 02:21 PM

yeah, I get the feeling that even if I gave mine a good polish it wouldn't look as good as that one! Sucks living somewhere where the weather eats your pride and joy!
