M3 vs 332ti at Autobahn

A lap at Autobahn Country Club from a '97 M3 following my '96 332ti (318 with M3 motor)

I think it's interesting to note the differences in rear suspensions between an E36 and an E30. With no rear sway bar, I can turn in quicker on some corners and gain ground; on other corners, he closes up. We did this all day--one of us leading, the other following, sometimes on the other guy's bumper--and got blue passing flags all day. Well, blue passing LIGHTS, because Autobahn now has electronic flag stations. Not sure I like them. You can barely see them on the video, and they are not as attention-getting as somebody waving a flag.

Best lap was a 2:53.

What my car needs is bigger tires. I'm running 235x17s, because they are the only ones that fit. I'd like to put on fender flares and 245x17 (maybe 255 in the rear). Anybody done this?

Rich

What kind of tires? What wheel specs? How much negative camber do you have? Sticky street tires, R comps, Hoosiers?

Depending on the tire, 245s fit easily with the right offset wheels. 255s should fit easily in the rear, front may require spacers.

I have been running a square 255/45/17 setup on Kosei K1's for 2+years, just need spacers in the front to clear the Coilovers

Like Dave and James said, 245 and 255 are possible without flares.

I'm running 17x8.5 et40s with 245 squared. Fits without modification on most ti's. On my 95 they got a little excessive with the seam sealer on the back part of the rear quarter and I needed to take a razor to a few nubs that were sticking out, now no issues.

hi,you don t need to go such larger on your car
i am driving on track with 17 61 16 (200/45/16) michelin SA or N20 and its enough for my 328 ti ( 2290 lbs 225 hp )

We are switching to 245 15's this year for chump, the 205 Direzas and no LSD were a bit of a handful on corner exit. While super sticky 205 to 235 are certainly do able, most of the DOT tires I have tried start to give up the ghost on the front axle with the weight we have up there.
