Water in driver's rear cubby
 

Well, as I was pulling off the driver's rear hatch panel to get at my speakers, I saw that I have some water in the cubby behind the wheelwell. Is there a drain somewhere that could lead to this if clogged? With Florida in the hurricane season, having a drainage/leak problem would not be good...

Okay, I'm an idiot. I didn't even think to check the antenna grommet; apparently a huge chunk came off of it recently.

Was going to mention that-

But also check the plastic trap-door air-pressure regulator vent which is under the cubby in the hatch. It may be stuck open for some reason...

Is that what those two flappy things in the back are??? I've stripped out the entire rear interior of my car and was wondering what those were.. To bad they really don't work that well.

I've got exactly the same problem, water in both cubby holes and some on top of the spare wheel. Where exactly are the antenna grommet and the plastic trap-door air-pressure regulator vents? I stripped out my entire rear today but didn't see anything like these?

The antenna grommet is the rubber donut that seals the antenna mast to the body of the car.

Ah, must be different in the states. My antenna is integrated into the rear windscreen. I thought there was maybe another connection I was missing but I guess not.

i have a similar problem...
my driver's side floor (not the trunk area) gets wet from time to time, I'm not sure, but i think its related to a clog in the sunroof drain, which is what i was going to suggest until i actually read the rest of the post.
has anyone else had that problem?

I get the wetness in the driver side cubby bucket too. I was thinking it could be the rubber trim piece that keeps popping out at the base of the rear window, but someone posted a while ago that the glass is glued and the rubber piece is just for show. I'll check my antenna grommet, it did look like it was riding a little high. This regulator vent is news to me.

pain to install that gromet too.. I needed to use a screwdriver from underneath to pull it down into the hole.

Iv been suffering with this problem for ages (iv posted a few links about it...) mine has got to the point where the rear sound proofing has rotten due to it being perminantly wet...i have however poss fixed it...after spending 475 quid at a bmw garage to try and locate it...which they failed to do!!...i lost my temper and siliconed the entire rubber seal around the rear hatch (i only get the water in the rear cubby holes and under the tool kit by the spare wheel)..as i found the water appeared to be coming in from a weld behind the rear lights....
Remove the rear lights..make sure the entire area is dry...keep the rear hatch open and pour water down the channel by the boot struts..in theory it should just pour off..mine howeva was leaking into the boot...therefore gathering in the cubby holes and being soaked up by the soundproofing material...which in tern rotted which made my car smell like a dead animal all the time...hummmmmm yummy!!
Since siliconing the around the entire seal it appears to have stayed dry..whooooo hooo!! I still cant work out how the water got in and under the seal as the rubber sits very tight on a thin metal lip///but frankly i dont care it appears to have worked so im a happy chappy..the leak has been the bain of my life..especially with our cruddy English weather!!!:redface:

When installing the grommet..Liquid Dish Soap..it will help.

Remember always time for lube! and use a cloth or something to protect your paint will your working the old out and new in.

no probs mate i know how annoying (and expensive!) it can be iv had it for over a yr now!! let me know if it helps (plus if u use clear sealant u cant actually see it either..i'll post some pics of where exactly mine was comin through so u can see as it took me hrs to work it out so it should save u some wasted time!
