Clay like i said i don't think you can get an after market one that will pass emissions with. Correct me if im wrong, but this my understanding.

the Bavarian Autosport cats will pass if they're brand new (I think)

Resetting the CEL won't work. There is a required number of cycles the car must go through first. Emissions can tell that the car was just reset.

i'm aware of that. the CEL doesnt come on for a few days after i clear it. i don't know how many miles is enough for the test but my mechanic never mentioned it.

94305 is the part number for the magnaflow cat i used for my e-test and actually i had a slight head gasket leak at the time aswell...

I feel bad for you guys, I get an inspection sticker whether my car passes or not, the last time no one even looked at the car, hook-ups FTMFW

dont waste your time with aftermarket cats - they just simply do not work.
unfortunatelly, you'll have to save up & get the OEM cat from the dealer. I know it sucks & that it is super expensive, but there is no way around it - speaking from experience...

in socal... in anaheim, at least, there's a muffler shop that sells high flow cat, installed, for 120... and they guarantee passing smog...

nyle 05-29-2008 07:01 PM

what brand?

bmvw 05-30-2008 05:42 PM

I have an aftermarket cat (see gallery) & easily passed everything except... the Bastard smog tech actually crawled under the car, read the numbers on the cat and failed the car since the cat is apparently for a Chrysler. This is a new rule in California apparently - approved cats only.

Lesson #1 - Do Not take your car to a smog dealer that doesn't have a Free Retest policy.

A few days later I took it to another dealer & it passed. But this bull**** is getting worse and worse every year. The cat was legal when it was put on, now it's not. I wonder how many people are paying $1200 due to this stupid rule change.

honestly, I would love to move to California if it wasn't for the smog testing
