Soo my mechanic says its not the heating core, but there is a plastic thing cracked behind the engine and thats where the coolant is leaking from. Any clue wat that might be??

Hey ppl, is the oil pan on a 97 ti sport attached to the transmission.
According to my mechanic the oil pan is attached and thats why labor is like a lil over a grand.
Is this true????
