Can't remember what type of bolts are used to hold the axles into the diff on a ti, but that looks just like the bolts in my 1600's axles.

Definitely buy a torque wrench. Not too expensive at Harbor Freight. If it tightens too quickly that means you're stripping it.

I usually just use some oil to lube o-rings.

What weight oil? That would be a sign you're low....but if you've verified that the level is between the marks on the dipstick when cold, I'd assume you're safe. Maybe check the wiring to the light.

All M44s were 1.9L from 96 on. My 96 has the interior light dimmer switch you mention, it's the headlight switch left of the cluster. Getting one at a junkyard will be cheaper :)
