New valve cove gasket, also made the discovery that 318s came with a special tool for pulling spark plug boots, this is the third M44 I've replaced the VCG on and none of the others had the tool.

I would check things like vacuum lines and maybe even the ICV, I've seen/ heard of those doing really weird unexpected things to performance when they wear out.
