m44 head on m42 bottom end

I have a 1995 318ti with ticking comming from top end, was told it was cam bearings staring to go bad or mabey something worse. Insted of rebuilding the head a freind gave me a m44 head out of a 97...

But its a brand new one and im hoping it may be just stuck closed. I'm REALLY hoping that's my issue for a lukewarm kinda cold lower radiator hose

How I tested the fan was by disconnecting the fan connector and taking 2 makeshift test wires off the battery to the fan. Both high and low settings work. I don't understand what your saying about...

i just did a minor rebuild to my m42 and just got it all reassembled. i tried to bleed the cooling system just now and over heated.. just over half.

heres my problem. my electric radiator fan isnt...

Thank you for the help. Deffinatlly narrowed it down with the stomp test. I didnt know that these cars had that. It was the dam upper intake not sealed correctly. steel gaskets haha. switched em out...

Just replaced thermostat and water pump for now, my son is kinda my bmw mechanic, he has already owned 5 bmw in the last 3 years, so I think he knows what he is doing.
