Correct me if I'm wrong but obd2 to obd1 is just on the engine and management.
I slung a 98 obd2 m52b28 in my 94 obd1 compact 316 the only problem I had was at the gauge cluster with the abs light...

I've done plenty of cars like this never had a problem. But if you do worry about it you could tack them back together. It beats stripping the whole assembly down and it's a lot quicker

I dont have one but have done the swap mechanically it's easy. My ti is a 94 and the 328 was a 98, the electrics were easy (I'm in the UK) pretty much plug and play really if you want anymore info...

A e30 or z3 will fit with slight work to the body with a lump hammer only ever slight, the cups can be changed so you can still use your original drive shafts or you could get e30 325i ones or z3 2.8...
