I saw this on autoblog last night. BMW is apparently working on a 2-door hatchback version of the 3-series. So maybe the TI is coming back?

Looks like it would be a Europe-only model...

I think the part is specific to the M42 engine found in the 1991 E30 318is or any 4-cylinder E36 from 1992-1996(?).
