i think the a3 looks better than the 1er, but i'm willing to bet it doesn't drive as well.

i thought they should have brought the first gen a3/s3 over instead of trying to market the r32 golf as a $30k+ car at the time. a proper s3 1.8t maybe. in fact, last gen vw just messed everything up for themselves by trying to sell weird high ends like the phaeton and toureg (as nice as they might have been), hurting audi image/sales, and now they're trying to re-adjust to their bread and butter, the young golf/jetta crowd. i'm just glad bmw doesn't have a lame german scientist trying to sell a car to me.
