On this side of the Atlantic, starting with a U.S. car and

I believe the thinking is that it doesn't take as long to recognize someone's intentions when the turn signals (and brake lights) each show their own and unique color.
I took the car in for its bi-annual inspection last week. The first inspector said he would have to fail the car because the ignition key freewheeled when he turned it backwards.
