The CCV is a black disc shaped valve with a slit on the bottom of it. Often times, when the valve goes bad, you can hear it hissing from the slit. If you put your finger over the slit, you can hear it change notes. But like I said before, I'd try the brake cleaner trick on the intake boot and vacuum hoses before I went messin with anything else.
