It is easiest in my opinion to remove the intake manifold. 18 or so nuts and bolts, plus taking off the airbox, MAF and fuel rail. You don't have to disassemble/remove the throttle body off the upper intake.
I'm assuming you have a M42, M44 isn't any harder except for the Y-connector at the back of the head.
