Actually hooking up an amp to stock speakers can work quite well for a budget system.
The best upgrade for any system, regardless of cost, is to upgrade the weakest part. The weakest part in all OEM systems is the amp inside the headunit. Then it is usually the headunit, and then the speakers.
I dont know anything about the tube, if it connects via a high level input then you might be able to take a split from one of the rear speakers.
