No, the strain would come from trying to close the hatch against lifters that are far stronger than the stock design.
I'm sure there is a margin there, but if the struts are super-heavy, you essentially bend the hatch at the lift point every time you close it. This is a bad situation, similar to the one-sided lift which twists the hatch... |
