Update:
Despite the two differentials turning different, opening them reveled that they are both open. I would say that that the direction of the shafts spinning is NOT a good way to determine if a differential is open or LSD. The lack of any attached wheels, which causes resistance, could have played a factor in this but everyone should keep this in mind while buying an LSD. If the differential is removed from the car, you should look for an S or open the case.
