I didn't say Tokicos were junk (they're not) and I didn't say that you MUST spend money to get a quality part (you don't always have to). However, in 25+ years of wrenching on cars, I have found from first-hand experience that more often than not, there does tend to be a correlation between quality and price. Sometimes the more expensive part is overkill and unnecessary, sometimes it is not.

That said, I'll generally take a Bilstein shock anyday over a Tokico.
