Formagasket is good no doubt, but it should only be used in applications where the gasket material is of vegetable fiber or paper only or straight metal to metal contact. The make up of formagasket is largely alcohol based so it will start to destroy rubber and silicone as soon as it is applied.

Any other gasket material such as he is looking at (rubber impregnated paper or plastic sheet such as garlock, the only two gaskets ive seen made for the housing) requires an RTV.

RTV is largely made of silicone and is therefore better for use with rubber. It also has higher heat resistance than you would expect.
