I change my oil when the engine is warm. It's warm, but not hot. Give it maybe 10 minutes with the hood up (appx time it takes to drain the oil) and you should be fine.

Also, while the filter cartridge is on top, I use a plastic bag in my other hand to grab the entire assembly immediately as it comes out to keep drips low.

After you change the filter, you'll have lost a little oil. Just check the dipstick and top off where necessary.


I have a gallery that goes through the oil change steps. Be sure to change the o-rings as well.

Did you put in a new crush washer when you reinstalled the drain pan bolt?
